Short Spring Breaks in St Ives

Larissa Ellis-Jones

St Ives over the Winter months is a nice sleepy harbour, with pretty, glistening ice sheets settling all around and gentle cool breezes that run through the cobbled streets, it makes for a perfect winter escape, but how about staying with us as we thaw out and make our way into Spring?

This time of year, with the changes in weather giving us a collection of different days, St Ives is well prepared for all eventualities. There are plenty of coastal walks, gardens to explore and places to enjoy a post adventure drink on the front for the calmer, sunnier days and then art galleries, cosy restaurants, and plenty of unique shops for the more unpredictable ones.

Making Sail Lofts your home for a short-break to St Ives during this time of year, means you get a relaxed, tranquil setting in the very heart of the town, to hunker down and switch off from the busy outside world and fully embrace the change of season in our Cornish harbour town.

Time for lunch and what better place to sit and admire the harbour views, than in St Ives’ own Silco. With options of tapas style lunch bites or larger plate options, this place has something for everyone, not to mention their connection with St Ives gin, so a few drinks are in order to make the most of your short break.

Outdoor adventures:

Cornwall is fortunate to have an abundance of great walking spots to discover. From dramatic coastal adventures to gentle meanders around seasonal displays and views, Cornwall’s got it covered.

Staying with us in one of our apartments at Sail Lofts, you will have instant access to part of the South West Coast Path. Heading northwards you can take part of the path along the harbour, up to Carbis Bay and around to the Hayle estuary. With lots of cafes, independent shops and pubs to stop off in on, on the way.

Having a grand adventure outdoors is always good for the soul, with the beaches still being dog-friendly, you can make the most of the coast without making any alterations to your trip. Then, when you've had enough fresh Cornish air, venture back to your cosy home-from-home at Sail Lofts to relax and unwind.

Indoor activities:

The weather in this country can be very unpredictable at times, it certainly keeps us on our toes, but luckily, St Ives has a great variety of indoor activities to keep everyone entertained for the less sunny days.

Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Tate Gallery:

St Ives is renowned for its artsy scene, with plenty of galleries to wonder around and admire. The Tate Gallery being one of the most iconic of galleries in the country is well worth a visit to experience and awe over.

Then take a stroll over to the Barbara Hepworth Museum to appreciate the great sculptors’ creations and the place she called home. Staying with us at Sail Lofts, we offer complimentary entry to both Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Gallery. To arrange your complimentary tickets simply pop into the office during your stay.

In the age of streaming content, a trip to the cinema often gets overlooked, but here in St Ives, we have a very quaint little cinema that provides all the classic treats like warm, freshly popped pop-corn and ice cream tubs. Find a film that takes your fancy from new releases to local creations and settle down for an afternoon of nostalgic entertainment.

Godolphin estate

Taking a trip to the historic estate property of Godolphin, you can wonder around the medieval grade 2 listed gardens or take some time to investigate and learn about the heritage surrounding the Godolphin estate in the grade 1 listed manor house built in the late 1400s. A perfect place for a slow stroll around the grounds or learning about a wealth of history spanning over 600s years. Then refresh for a cup of tea or spot of lunch in the piggery tea room after exploring around.
