Off the beaten track – Hidden Gems

Tash Murch

We are so lucky to have so much to see and do in St Ives, with glowing beaches, water sports, boat trips, delicious restaurants and cafes and art galleries too. But why not take a few hours out of the town to explore somewhere out of the hustle and bustle, grab a bite to eat, admire the amazing countryside and see some of the local wildlife too.

We have put together a few ideas of places to visit that are just off the beaten track, but all within 30 minutes of your luxury self-catering apartment. Each has its own charm and is guaranteed to give you a relaxing few hours away from St Ives…with the bonus of cake!

Lakeside Cabin Café

Head out of the hustle and bustle towards the outskirts of St Ives, where you will be treated to great food in a peaceful setting overlooking Nance fishing lakes. Just 15 minutes from your luxury apartment, you will find a tranquil spot to enjoy a bite to eat or a coffee with friends.

One thing not to miss is the cakes at Lakeside Cabin Cafe, they are pieces of art and you would be missing out if you didn’t indulge. Alternatively, this cafe is perfect for an afternoon tea with a view, a big breakfast to start you off before a day out exploring or a delicous freshly prepared lunch.

Birdies Bistro

Located just 15 minutes from St Ives, and situated on the edge of RSPB’s Hayle’s reserve, Birdies Bistro offers spectacular views of the estuary whilst serving tasty fresh foods.

Whether you are looking for an early morning breakfast watching birds on the estuary or a relaxed spot for a famiy lunch, Birdies will be happy to accommodate you. On sunnier days there's also a lovely outdoor area perfect for alfresco dining - it's dog friendly too.

Hells Mouth Coffee House

Located along the Southwest Coastal Path, this coffee house is the perfect pit-stop whilst out exploring the Cornish coast. Just across the road from Hells Mouth, a stunning cove around the corner from Godrevy Lighthouse, it offers stunning views and the possibility of seeing an array of wildlife from birds of prey to dolphins. Combined with a walk, this is a great spot to take a break and grab some lunch.

Offering a mouth-watering menu which includes breakfast rolls, burgers, salads, cakes and ice creams, there is something for everyone, no matter how hungry you are.

One of the most exciting things to do whilst at the farm-for both children and adults alike, is to pick your own fruit and veg, with the option to check online to see what’s in season before heading out. So, if you are looking for some strawberries to accompany your cream tea, you are in luck as they are currently ready for picking.

Trink Dairy

Based just outside St Ives, about a 15 minute drive, with views of both St Ives and Penzance, Trink Dairy Farm offers the unique opportunity to see a working dairy farm whilst purchasing their products from their onsite shop.

If you are looking to find out more about a dairy farm you can visit the milking parlour and watch the cows being milked, or just take a walk around the farm and meet some of its residents. This summer Trink have created a new milkshake bar within their 24 hour milk shop -  just purchase some milk, choose your favourite syrup and shake away.
