Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens

Tucked away in a sheltered valley on the outskirts of Penzance, is the horticultural gem of Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens offering a great day out for all the family, even the dog!

How to get there

From your luxury self catering apartment in St Ives, Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens is just a 20 minute drive away - follow the A30 westbound towards Penzance and when you reach the outskirts of the town take the 3rd exit at the Morrisons roundabout onto Jelbert Way. Pass KFC, Currys, Helfords and B&M on your left. Then take the first right (after Sainsburys) onto Posses Lane (signposted Gulval). From the end of Posses Lane follow the signs to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens. After just over 1 mile turn left into Tremenheere Sculpture  Gardens where you will find ample free parking.

The Gardens

On arrival the majority of the garden isn’t visible but after a meander along a very unassuming woodland path the hidden treasures start to reveal themselves and a feast for the eyes and senses commences with a series of beautiful ponds and waterfalls embellished with tree ferns, gunnera, rhododendrons and azaleas. The whole garden is created on a steep hill, which would put off most garden enthusiasts but the natural sloping landscape has it’s advantages as it creates a diverse range of micro climates which allows for a varied garden with a huge range of plants. From the first section of the garden which is a shaded lush area which could be mistaken for a rainforest to the dry Mediterranean part of the garden, which is reminiscent of the Tresco Abbey Gardens boasting exotic plants such as South African Proteas and Bush Echiums.

Besides the incredible plants are the impressive selection of sculptures by internationally renowned artists, which seem to effortlessly blend into and compliment the surroundings. Current exhibitors include James Turrell RA, Kishio Suga and Darren Hawkes with his slate monoliths which were originally designed for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and were awarded a gold medal.

Finally if incredible plants and stunning sculptures aren’t enough the gardens have undisturbed vistas of Mounts Bay and St Michael's Mount which can be viewed from one of the many viewing points.
