September in St Ives 2023

Larissa Ellis-Jones

September is one of our favourite months here in St Ives, and although it's a while off yet to think about,  we love looking forward to fun times ahead here at the Sail Lofts.

September is great as it is a little bit quieter than in the summer however this does not mean it's less enjoyable. September has been known to be one of the best months to visit Cornwall to soak up the last bit of the sun, and if the weather does take a bit of a turn, it is the first opportunity to see in the beautiful autumnal seasons.

Visiting the beach in September:

The sea is actually at its warmest in September and on a beautiful day, it can be the perfect way to enjoy your relaxing break in St Ives. Enjoying the last opportunities for a dip in the sea.

September is also one of the best months for surfing in Cornwall. So, if you wanted to bring your surfboards to enjoy the last of the summer sunshine. Here at the Sail Lofts, we have a safe and secure wet room where you can store your surfboards.

If you are new to the water sport, you can check out the St Ives Surf School for a plethora of activities, training and board hire.

Calmer atmosphere:

Along with warmer sea temperatures the beaches and streets around St Ives are much quieter than they are in the peak of the summer.

Enjoy a spacious and peaceful day at the beach where you can sit and relax, or a gentle meander around town, the galleries and places of interest. September has blessed us before with some beautiful summer-like days so why not make the most of the summer rays before the chillier days commence.

If, however, the temperatures are not as warm, there are plenty of opportunities of things to do in and around St Ives itself such as; the St Ives MuseumThe Tate, The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, the shops and the many quaint cafes around to indulge in. Be sure to make the most of our complimentary corporate access to the Tate and Hepworth. Ask in the office at Studio 7 in the courtyard for more information.

The South West Coastal Path:

In Cornwall we are lucky enough to have access to some amazing coastal walks, with St Ives itself benefiting from sitting along the South West Coastal path.

Why not take advantage of this and take a stroll in any direction and enhance the natural Cornish beauty? If you don’t fancy walking you can always hire a bike to cycle the coast and explore; Zennor is a very popular place to cycle and enjoy the stunning views.

At the Sail Lofts we have a collaboration with St Ives eBikes, where our guests receive a 10% discount on bike hire so don’t forget to mention this if you decide to book.
