Winter in St Ives

Helena Clark-Davies

Winter allows you to see St Ives in a new magical light. Avoid the bustle of summer and explore the town without having to weave your way down Fore Street. Experience cold and sunny morning walks on the beach, followed by a delicious hot chocolate or a day exploring the towns artistic heritage, St Ives in the winter has something for everyone, and the team at the Sail Lofts are here to ensure that everyone has their perfect Christmas!

As the evenings draw in take a walk along the harbour to take in the Christmas lights or check out the entries in the Christmas window competition as you do some last minute Christmas shopping on the cobbled streets. While the harbour lights are beautiful, if you really want a treat, head out to Mousehole or Angarrack to see the best Christmas light displays in Cornwall - both are easily accessible by car meaning you can discover Cornwall without the worry of parking in St Ives thanks to reserved parking throughout your stay.

Both the Barbara Hepworth and the Tate as well as many other smaller galleries are open over the winter period, so you can take them at your own pace without the summer crowds. In addition, the Tate offers many seasonal workshops if you want to take a more hands on approach to your art!

Don’t miss Father Christmas’ annual entrance to St Ives by lifeboat. Head down to Fore Street to make the most of the late night shopping before grabbing a bite to eat at a cosy restaurant on the harbour. Wait with bated breath for the arrival of Santa on the RNLI Lifeboat and the Christmas lights switch on.
