Walking the Cornish coast

Conor Fletcher

Walking in Cornwall can be the greatest way to discover what's on offer all throughout the county, from the vast and varied coastline to the countryside that is so emblematic of Cornwall the options out there are endless. In St Ives you're at the centre of everything to discover the western coastline or head inland and pass through some of the most unique and wonderful scenery Cornwall has to offer, so whether you're an avid hiker or a prospective pedestrian there's no reason not to get outside and follow your feet.

From the Sail Lofts luxury apartments in St Ives you can uncover some of the most famed footways the county has to offer you, the walk from St Ives to Zennor encapsulates everything we've all come to know and love about the Cornish coast; steep hills and vast open landscape. Discover the inspirational views of the Atlantic ocean as you pass over routes well travelled year-on-year, climb hillsides and navigate atop the coast's cliff-face.

The journey from St Ives to Zennor is of course no easy feat, the pathways climb high and drop very quickly as you take in some of the most incredible vistas the countryside can offer, while the road to Zennor can on occasion be a challenge the rewards it offers certainly outweigh its downside on a summer's day.

St Ives to Carbis Bay

Of course not everyone wants to journey far and wide to discover the sights and sounds of Cornwall, and would rather keep things simple, straight forward and easy. Taking the journey north from St Ives' town centre leads you across to Carbis Bay and beyond through to Hayle. The route is perfect for those looking to soak in the summer sun and take the odd detour every now and then to enjoy the odd break on the beach. All you need to do is follow the route out of St Ives toward Porthminster Beach and you're on your way.

St Ives to Trevalgan Hill

Heading inland you can make your way from the top end of St Ives to Trevalgan Hill where you can take in the sights of St Ives from a distance and look across the bay toward Godrevy Lighthouse. It's not too long a walk from St Ives and allows for some unique sights amongst the rugged terrain of Cornwall's countryside. Look back toward the town of St Ives and on a clear sunny day witness Godrevy Lighthouse in the distance or look around at the open green landscape.

Short trips like these allow you to discover a new side of Cornwall, away from the sea's edge and inland you can take in a different picturesque side of Cornwall that often gets overlooked.
