St Ives September Festival 2016

Peter Hutchinson

After the bustle of the summer months, the St Ives September Festival brings a sense of calm with an event packed fortnight of musical and creative ‘happenings’ before the change to winter sets in. Always a diverse choice of bands and spontaneous gigs, the ‘village’ is filled with live music, exhibitions, walks and talks, open studios, theatre, cabaret and street entertainment.

If you’ve not been before, it’s also a great time of year to visit. Still warm with sunlit evening’s and warm seas; and with the rush of the holiday season over, what better way to relax in the ease of St Ives?

As ever, the September Festival line-up includes something for everyone, with the Guildhall staging the biggest names, kicking off with Fairport Convention on Sat 10th, followed by An Evening with Rick Wakeman (Sun 11th), The Blockheads (Wed 14th), Juan Martin’s Flamenco Trio (Sun 18th) and the Budapest Café Orchestra (Thurs 22nd).

Having looked at the Festival web site there’s so much going on it’s hard to choose; why not have a look for yourselves, there’s certainly something to enjoy and entertain: http://www.stivesseptemberfestival.co.uk/festival-2016/calendar-of-events-2016

And it isn’t just music, from the pubs, galleries and St Ives Arts Club, to the opening day on the harbour front, all have something happening as part of the celebrations. Last year saw the busiest festival since it began in 1977, and this year already looks like building on that success. If you’re free for a long weekend, or for all 14 days, from years gone by, it’s well worth the journey.

We still have apartments available at The Sail Lofts, so do contact us if the thought of a week of temperate weather, good food and great entertainment rings a bell.
