A Quintessential Day in St Ives

Charlotte Ballam

The off season is the perfect time to head to the coast and stay in the comfort of a luxury holiday cottage in St Ives. With beaches to yourself, less hustle and bustle on the sleepy cobbled streets and some fairly fine weather thanks to our mild coastal climate, it’s time to relax, unwind and enjoy all things Cornish. These are some of our favourite ways to spend a day in and around St Ives…

Breakfast at the beach

With a day of adventure ahead of you, you won’t want to miss the chance to enjoy a hearty breakfast. We highly recommend Porthmeor Beach Café for their delicious array of dishes. Offering something for everyone from a full English to pancakes, Porthmeor is just couple of minutes from your holiday cottage in St Ives – via either road or beach! Add a freshly ground coffee and gaze out to sea for the perfect start to your day.

Walk the coast path from St Ives to Zennor

There is no better time for a walk than a good bright, crisp winter’s day. The well trodden and well loved coast path to Zennor can be picked up just beside the bowling green (en route to the Sail Lofts car park), around five minutes from your holiday cottage in St Ives. You’ll need sturdy footwear for the 6-mile walk as the way is far from flat and encompasses some uneven terrain. However, spectacular scenery, sparkling seas and maybe even a basking shark or dolphin show will reward your every uphill step.

Lunch at the Tinner’s Arms

With those hilly miles covered and breakfast a distant memory, treat yourself to a well-deserved drink and bite to eat at the Tinner’s Arms. Enjoy a menu full of delicious local produce washed down with local ale in the dining room, cosy bar or glorious beer garden before hoping aboard the bus and heading back to your holiday cottage in St Ives. The 16A is the one you’re looking for and a timetable can be found here.
