2023 Spring Time Events

As a reward for making it through the colder months, we are being treated to a whole host of events this spring – some classic favourites and some brand-new events to try for 2023.

Spring time events in St Ives:

For the creatives amongst you, it is worth noting a few new galleries and exhibitions popping up for you to peruse and explore: Tate St Ives are hosting their Barbara Hepworth exhibition showcasing the life and art of Hepworth as she lived and worked most of her life in our very own St Ives. The exhibition is running until May 1st, and is a must for admirers and sculptors alike. For more information check out this link: Hepworth Exhibition.

For something new and upcoming, from April 1st to April 28th, the artist Emma Jeffryes has created mixed media prints and attributed her love of the ocean and the sea as inspiration for her creations. For the pottery enthusiasts, Leach Pottery studio are hosting their exhibition talk on the life and work of Michael Leach, the second son of Bernard Leach. This insightful talk will discuss his career and influences as he taught the next generation of potters and the mark he left behind for the world of ceramics. Running until April 15th. If you’re after a feast of a festival, then St Ives Food and Drink Festival should be top of the list of must do’s when visiting us here at Sail Lofts. For a full three days there is plenty of entertainment, music, stalls, local drinks and of course, lots of Cornish produce and food to try. The festival is running from May 12th to May 14th on Porthminster beach, so staying with us at Sail Lofts will give you a perfect position to come and go from the event with no need to worry about finding a parking space or battling the festival traffic.

For the explorers; sightseeing outside of St Ives and around the rest of Cornwall can be a real adventure. Cornwall as a county is rich with its own heritage, charm and communities, and as such there is an event on to suit everyone’s interests.

Taking a trip over to Falmouth, a lovely historic harbour town with many shops and foodie places, you can exercise your flower passions with the Falmouth Flower Show. Celebrating its 113th show on Saturday, March 25th 10am – 5pm and Sunday, March 26th 10am-4pm this free event is showcasing 118 different classes, the best of Cornwall’s spring flowers, floral art, children’s entries, photography and trade stands which all include local produce, plants, art and gifts. St Agnes is an attractive seaside village resting along a valley as part of the Cornish Mining Heritage trail. The village boasts a couple of beautiful beaches, in particular, Trevaunance Cove, as well as several country pubs with cosy atmospheres and independent cafes and shops. St Agnes is also renowned for its community lifestyle with visitors being drawn to many of their local events and activities throughout the year. This year the village is hosting a spring fair at the MMI in St Agnes on March 25th with stalls, games, kids’ activities, bands and Cornish treats. For the thespian admirers, Truro’s newly renovated Hall for Cornwall is jam packed with shows throughout 2023. This spring see shows such as ‘Mrs Warren’s Profession’, ‘Fishermans Friends’ and William Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’, with great cast line ups and interesting stories to be told, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
