Early Summer Breaks in St Ives

Rachel Adams

As the weather is warming up and evenings draw out longer why not make the most of a pre summer holiday getaway with us here at Sail Lofts in St Ives.

Whether it’s a week-long holiday or short weekend break over our many Bank Holiday weekends we’ve been treated to this May, St Ives has plenty to offer for a relaxing break away for everyone.

It’s warming up and it’s still quieter

Unlike our busier summer months, May and June are much quieter, but equally, or even more so, enjoyable.

The warmer days that are on the approach definitely allow for long sun-filled days at the beach as well as good conditions for surfing or water activities, allowing everyone the chance to enjoy an idyllic day in the sunshine at the seaside. Making the most of our wet room and storage facilities on site here at Sail Lofts, we’ve got you covered for those beach-day activities.

Also, the streets are not as crowded, which gives the perfect opportunity to explore the town itself; having a good look in all the shops, enjoying an excellent meal on the harbour front and looking around our astounding galleries, all within an easy walking distance from our apartments here at Sail Lofts.

The extra Bank Holiday

In May this year we have the extra added Bank Holiday for the Kings Coronation from the 5th-8th May.

On Friday 5th in the evening there is a Proms-style Coronation Concert’ taking place at the Methodist church on Fore Street. The concert is open to all and free. A great way to start off your Bank Holiday weekend break away.

Then onto the main event with the coronation, May 6th, seeing St Ives come alive with street parties and celebratory activities throughout Cornwall to commemorate King Charles III being inaugurated and crowned as our nations Monarch. With staying with us here at Sail Lofts, you are a short 5-minute walk to all the main activities in the town and harbour front, where a big screen will be displayed for you to watch the coronation happen, meaning you can relax and take your time soaking up the weekend’s festive atmosphere.

Whats on?

May Day, known to celebrate the first day of summer, is a highly celebrated day in St Ives taking place on Monday, May 1st with plenty of traditions practiced that date back hundreds of years. The day is filled with parades, traditional Cornish dancing in addition to Maypole dancing and music. At Midday at the Guildhall in St Ives the ‘pee whip’ ceremony takes place where the May Queen and King, and their attending Prince and Princess, is chosen by the Mayor and the Grand Bard, an occasion not to be missed. Partnered with local choirs and brass bands playing live by the St Ives harbour throughout the day, it’s a fun event for all the family to enjoy.

The St Ives Food and Drink Festival is held on Porthminster Beach. This year the festival is from the 12th – 14th May and open and free to attend for all in the daytime. The event is jam-packed with amazing food and drink from local food and drink producers along with incredible live music. In the evening, the festival also hosts its ‘Evening Session’ where upcoming aspiring artists perform live on the Lighthouse Stage. These sessions are ticketed and can be found on the website, or alternatively on this link.
