Open Studios Cornwall

St Ives is renowned for its art scene and rich history and we're incredibly fortunate to have the iconic Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden just minutes from the Sail Lofts luxury cottages. But what about the rest of Cornwall? Open Studios - Krowji and Open Studios Cornwall is an annual, week long event that provides a rare opportunity to take a look in some of the less discovered corners of the county.
'Krowji', meaning workshop or shed in Cornish, is Cornwall’s largest creative hub, providing studios, workspaces, meeting rooms and other services for creative businesses. The end of this month will see over 50 of their artists, makers and designers opening their studio doors to the public as part of Open Studios Cornwall 2019. Based in Redruth, it's a straight forward, half hour drive from the Sail Lofts luxury cottages in St Ives, so if you don't feel like going too far-afield, this is a great way to see a lot of the artists in one place.
Open Studios Cornwall
The event will encompass around 300 artists and studios all over Cornwall as well as those working out of Krowji - so if you do feel like exploring a little, look out for large orange ‘O’s that mark a participating artist. Open Studios give us an opportunity to glimpse what goes on behind the finished products we usually see as well as talk to their makers and with so many artists working with so many mediums you're sure to find something that inspires you! Expect to see works involving watercolour, glass, textiles, ceramics, furniture - even gold, silver and pearls. And of course, there will be plenty of art, crafts and gifts for sale. Should you want to roll up your sleeves there will also be a couple of workshops being offered by the artists involved, such as Figurative Drawing Taster with a Model and The Artist in Me (Watercolour and Meditation) workshops.
