Paws & Shores
Planning a holiday with your four-legged friend? St Ives is one of Cornwall’s most dog-friendly destinations, where sandy paws, clifftop walks, and dog-welcoming cafés are part of everyday life. Whether you’re chasing sunsets on the beach or exploring the cobbled streets of this beautiful seaside town, St Ives makes it easy to bring your dog along for the fun. The best part? You can enjoy it all while staying in one of our luxury self-catering, dog-friendly properties in St Ives, located just a short walk from all the beaches and the town centre. It’s the perfect base for seaside adventures, lazy mornings, and everything in between.
Dog-Friendly beaches & Summer restrictions
In the summer months, some of the main beaches in St Ives do have dog restrictions, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. From May 15th to September 30th, Porthmeor, Porthminster, and Carbis Bay beaches do not allow dogs between 10 am and 6 pm. St Ives Harbour Beach and Porthgwidden only have this restriction during July and August, so it won’t be long until your four-legged friends can enjoy these beaches at any time of the day again.
The good news is that outside of those peak hours, dogs are welcome, and the early mornings and evenings are some of the most beautiful times to visit the beach. Imagine peaceful sunrise strolls, golden-hour paddles, and your dog having the space to run and explore with fewer people around. It’s truly one of the best ways to experience the coastline.
Beaches that welcome dogs all year round
For total freedom and full-day beach time, head to one of St Ives’ year-round dog-friendly beaches. Bamaluz Beach, nestled between the harbour and Porthgwidden, is a favourite among dog owners thanks to its easy access and peaceful atmosphere. If you’re looking for a more secluded stroll, Lambeth Walk near the RNLI lifeboat station offers a quiet escape ideal for low-key walks. Finally just a short drive away - or, for the more adventurous, a brisk walk along the rugged Cornish coastline - Porthkidney Sands offers miles of open space for off-lead fun with stunning views across the bay.
Scenic walks your pup will love
Beyond the beach, there’s no shortage of dog-friendly walks with postcard-worthy views. The South West Coast Path is a must, especially the section west of St Ives towards Zennor. It’s dramatic, rugged, and absolutely breathtaking – but do bring water and wear a good pair of walking shoes. For shorter strolls, explore The Island, a grassy headland with panoramic views of the Atlantic and benches to sit and take it all in. Or escape to the Steeple Woodland Nature Reserve, just above the town, with shaded trails and space to explore among wildflowers and trees. Wherever you walk, there’s always a new scent, view or seagull to chase.
Dog-Friendly Places to Eat, Drink & Relax
St Ives is incredibly welcoming to dogs, so much so that you’ll often find cafés and pubs with water bowls waiting at the door. Whether you’re stopping for a Cornish cream tea or a sunset drink by the harbour, your pup doesn’t need to be left behind. Some local favourites include The Sloop Inn, a historic pub right on the harbour that welcomes dogs inside and out. Scoff Troff café, a laid-back breakfast and brunch spot and The Hub, which serves perfect burgers and offers people-watching with a sea view. Many spots will even offer a biscuit or two for your pup.
