Family Friendly Half Term Activities | St Ives, Cornwall

Charlotte Ballam

Sail Lofts five star accommodation is conveniently located just out of the centre of St Ives. Meaning you're never than a few minutes walk away from town and best of all, mere seconds from the beach! We're lucky in that we experience some wonderful weather at the most unexpected times due to our mild Cornish climate. And if the weather is fair, days can be happily whiled away with sand and sea, even in the winter months. However it's good to have a contingency plan for those rainy days, or, for when you just fancy exploring further afield!

Things to do in Cornwall in February half term

Paradise Park - Pirates and Fairies Treasure Hunt - TR27 4HB

Paradise park is situated in Hayle, an easy 20 minute drive away from your five star accommodation in St Ives. It's currently home to 130 species and a total of over 1000 birds! Be sure not to miss the penguin and otter feeding at 11am and 11.15am respectively, along with later times of 3pm and 3.15pm. On rainy days the JungleBarn gives the youngsters a much needed chance to blow off some steam. A large soft play area suitable for children aged 3-15, they can enjoy drop slides, swings across nets, multi-level apparatus and much more. Smaller guests have their own toddler area with more soft play and a ball fountain. If you're planning a trip to the JungleBarn remember to take socks (although they can be purchased there). During half term Paradise Park is hosting a special treasure hunt. If they so wish, children can dress up as they explore the park in search of the answers they need to complete their quiz and claim their prize! The Pirates and Fairies Treasure Hunt runs from 16th to 24th February. Visit Paradise Park for further details.

Eden Project - Passport to the World  - PL24 2SG

From 16th - 24th February, families can experience five continents in one day at Eden, collecting special passport stamps as they go. Explore rainforest tropics to Arctic landscapes all in a matter of minutes.  And with didgeridoo and flamenco performances, storytelling, craft workshops and even a colourful carnival parade, there's no shortage of things to do. Heartlands Cornwall - TR15 3QY

Heartlands is a free visitor attraction and World Heritage Site just off the A30 in Pool, with 19 acres to explore.  Here you'll find everything from art galleries and a cafe to an adventure play ground complete with tunnels and a shipwrecked boat. There is a totem circle of twelve poles decorated with hieroglyphics waiting to be deciphered as well as the Diaspora Botanical Gardens. The Gardens tell the story of foreign lands visited by Cornish people, the plants they took with them as well the ones that came home with them and soon began to thrive in our rich soil and mild temperature. Heartlands is an easy drive up the A30 towards Redruth. The drive shouldn't take you much longer than 20 minutes.

Pendennis Castle - TR11 4LP

One of Henry VIII's coastal fortresses, Pendennis Castle has defended Cornwall since the Tudor times and is well worth exploring on any day of the week. However, from 18 - Fri 22 February the castle will be offering an exciting insight into Castle life during the Second World War! "Step back to the time of the Second World War and join the castle’s Drill Sergeant to be put through your paces in the castle obstacle course. Crawl through tunnels, walk the plank and see if you have what it takes to defend a castle in this lively activity the whole family can compete in." Pendennis Castle boasts epic coastal views, period artefacts, guns, canons and a cafe. Everything you need for a great family day out.
