Dog Friendly St Ives

Kelly Weaver

With the Dog Beach Ban being lifted on October 1st and all the dog owners in Cornwall breathing a collective sigh of relief at the prospect of returning to their long beach walks with their four legged friends. If you too are a dog owner, now is the time to head to St Ives and enjoy this coastal gem with your dog rather than the summer holiday crowds.

Dog Friendly Cafes

Most pubs in St Ives are more than happy to welcome both you and your dog, and even some of the harbour front restaurants are dog friendly. As dogs will be once again allowed on the beaches, you will be able to take them with you should you decide to grab a croissant at Porthmeor Beach Café whilst overlooking the stunning beach and Island

Best Dog Walks

There are so many incredible walks in St Ives and the surrounding area that it is nigh on impossible to pick the best, however here are two of my favourites.

St Ives Coastal Path

The views from this coastal walk are second to none. Pick up the path at Man’s Head, just seconds from Sail Lofts – St Ives’s car park on Beach Road. From here follow the wheelchair accessible path towards Clodgy Point, where you will find on of the most breath-taking views in St Ives. The views from the beaches, while beautiful come nowhere close to rivalling the scenery for its pure vastness and spectacle.

If you are feeling particularly adventurous, the Coastal Path allows to you to walk all the way to Zennor! This is a more strenuous walk so appropriate footwear is essential.

The Beaches

If you’d prefer not to stray too far afield, the St Ives Beaches make for great dog walks especially for those dogs that cant get enough of the water. On days with a very low tide you will be able to walk along the beach from the harbour all the way to Porthminster.
