What’s on this February half term…

Kelly Weaver

The holidays are once again upon us, and what seems to have been only just Christmas is apparently already the beginning of the St Ives season! So lets take a look at all the wonderful things happening in and around the county this February Half Term…

Should you understand who Stick Man is, then you and your little ones will be very excited to discover that Cardinham Woods has a nature trail dedicated to Julia Donaldson’s popular character. Start off by heading to the Woods Café, open all year round serving delicious lunches and divine afternoon treats, to pick up your Stick Man Activity Trail pack.

Lead to a great day out getting your little ones involved in the great outdoors, from bark rubbing to stick games, all in the idyllic setting of Cardinham Woods. You’re close to Lanhydrock House here, so should you have your National Trust pass handy I suggest swinging by, the gardens and house are rather quite spectacular.

Should you be looking for something slightly more enchanted, spend a day at Paradise Park in Hayle and join the magical pirates and fairies parade, with flying macaws and Long John Tredinnick and his loyal band of parrots.

For those of an arty persuasion why not get your pack signed up for one of the courses at the Barnoon Workshop, situated behind Tate St Ives, and enjoying vast views out across the Atlantic, the Barnoon Workshop brings the opportunity to sample a different artistic journey everyday of the week, from an introductory session in making block stamps to creating beach find mosaics to contemporary drawing with wire. To find out more about the classes available at the Barnoon Workshop pop across to their website here.

If problem solving as a family is your bag you absolutely must head to Eden and book a slot in their new live escape room game. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to save a dying alien who has landed on Earth and must be diagnosed and treated before it can be released from quarantine. You’ll need to work as a team and use all your problem solving skills if you are to discover the cure and save the alien. Booking is essential and slots are available on selected dates until 19th February.

For any family fascinated by the BBCs fantastic period adaptation of Poldark, immerse yourself on Monday 13th February in Geevor Tin Mines Poldark Day, with hand drilling, crafts and a look in to what life would have truly been like, including fashion with dressing up and acting the part. More than a mine, more than a museum - located in Pendeen on the dramatic Cornish coastline, Geevor tin mine is one of the largest preserved mine sites in the country and a Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. Housed in two acres of listed buildings, Geevor’s collections and guides bring the story of Cornwall’s rich industrial past to life.

Get out on the beach, we are not even joking, it’s a great time of year for body boarding, and the St Ives Surf School has an introductory session suitable for all ages. Or why not book in as a family group and experience a day on the waves together, safe in the knowledge that your luxury apartment in St Ives is just moments away! Call the team at the St Ives Surf School to find out more.

If your not quite convinced that surfing in February is a good idea but still fancy some outdoor fun, why not head over to St Erth and give Football Golf a go? It’s great fun and a surefire way to get the family competiveness going.

With fun around every corner, and something to satisfy the whole family this February Half Term we suggest you head west.
