January skies and luxury apartments in St Ives

Katy Peck

It struck me the other day as I was walking towards Porthgwidden Beach and looking out across the St Ives bay at golden shafts of light breaking through violent purple storm clouds illuminating Godrevy Lighthouse as to how beautiful even stormy weather can be to watch. These incredible vibrant colours, mixed with the power of the waves and wind gave me an exhilarating feeling and reminded me of Alfed Wallis paintings of shipwrecks, pirates and days gone by.

Fast forward a week to today and we have the complete contrast, still, icy and blue with not a cloud to be seen in the January skies above this south west peninsula, so crystal clear it makes you think from sitting inside, that we’re right in the midst of June, and should you venture outside you would be overtaken by the wafting scent of BBQ’s and sunscreen. Sadly, however, we are a few months off from the warmer weather, but spoilt by how quiet St Ives is at this time of year and how fortunate we are with our milder winters here in Cornwall.

Leading to St Ives being the perfect year round destination for travellers, thrill seekers and holidaymakers alike. The blue frosty skies make for perfect walking days along the coastal paths, with opportunity to see a different side to St Ives, one that is reserved just for you, and not the hordes of summer visitors, giving you the opportunity to see a much more intimate side to this hotly contested luxury seaside destination. One that will seep in to your soul and have you returning year-on-year like many of the Sail Lofts guests, who return without exception to the calling of St Ives.I don’t ever feel there is a day in St Ives where the weather doesn’t behold a truly marvelous spectacle which one can observe from one of the town’s many restaurants, beaches, or even from the warmth of one of the Sail Lofts luxury apartments.
