It is easy out of season to have your pick of the best dog friendly beaches in and around Cornwall, not to mention miles of coastal paths, sadly however, the St Ives beach ban runs from Easter through to October, limiting all four-legged friends to a few of St Ives’s smaller beaches.
This does not mean that your dog’s experience of West Cornwall will be dampened, as here is our guide to our top spots for taking Fido.
Bamaluz Beach in St Ives is small yet perfectly formed, tucked away from the throngs of tourists and the hustle and bustle of the town, an oasis for man’s best friend. A tidal beach, leaving fresh sand roughly every 6 hours, perfect for dogs to charge along chasing balls and small waves ready for paddling in. Located just moments from the Sail Lofts dog friendly accommodation in St Ives, this is the perfect pit stop during early morning walks around the town or even on the way to breakfast, and a brilliant way for your four-legged friend to run off any excess energy before the day begins.
It is also worth mentioning that the Harbour beach is only restricted during the day, before 8am and after 7pm during the summer your dog can enjoy the full expanse of the Harbour beach whether the tide is in or out. Giving miles of terrain to charter and explore.
For dog friendly days out during your stay in St Ives, I cannot recommend highly enough Trebah Gardens, a 26-acre, sub-tropical garden situated on the balmy south coast, where palms and exotic plants flourish by the Helford River.
Speaking from experience, our dog Ted would spend hours smelling and exploring the zig-zag pathways that meander down and through the flora and fauna bringing you down to a beautiful beach that over looks the Helford Passage.
With its own wonderful café, Trebah is a day out for the whole family, there are even doggie tables, so you can sit comfortably with Fido, along with a garden terrace and picnic area for days when the weather is more favourable.
The gardens are open year round, and are a result of 175 years of inspired and dedicated creation, canopies burst with exotic blooms, as you follow vibrant tunnels of colour that cascade you down through the valley, that naturally protects its delicate plant life.
During your stay at the Sail Lofts dog friendly accommodation in St Ives, Trebah is only a short 50-minute drive away following signs for Helston and then Constantine.
