A stroll through the winding streets of the town will inevitably lead you down to St Ives’ colourful ancient fishing harbour.
A vibrant mix of old and new (where you can still watch the morning’s mackerel catch being unloaded from the boats), the harbour is sheltered from the Atlantic waves by giant granite peers. You’ll find traditional inns, friendly cafes and critically acclaimed restaurants lining the quay. On Thursdays, typical of a small town, St Ives holds a farmers market showcasing a range of superb locally produced food and products.
Outside St Ives Lifeboat Station (open to the public in summer) you’ll find St Ives Boats operating regular trips out to Seal Island to spot seals, and sometimes dolphins, frolicking in waves. There are also bird watching and fishing trips, and private charters.
The outgoing tide reveals a stretch of fine sand ideal for taking a break, enjoying an ice-cream, and soaking up the sights and sounds of this fascinating working harbour.
