The Sail lofts – Access Statement

At the Sail Lofts - St Ives we are dedicated to the care and support of all our customers, and have made every effort to make our sites as accessible as possible, particularly to people with disabilities. However, it should be recognised, the buildings originate from the 18th century and their historic nature has given rise to certain limitations in the improvements we were able to make.

 

Introduction

The Sail Lofts are a unique development of twelve self-catering luxury holiday properties, clustered around a central courtyard garden. Five of the properties are accessed via the courtyard, and the remaining seven have direct access either from Porthmeor Road, where the main entrance is situated, or from Ropewalk to the rear of the complex. We hope to provided as much information as possible within this statement and through our web site, but if you have any further enquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Pre Arrival

Our web site (www.thesaillofts.co.uk) contains the details of all our properties, with images and floor plans linked to each apartment. It also has location maps and a section for frequently asked questions (FAQ’s).

Bookings and enquiries can be done-on line through the web site, or if you prefer, by email (info@thesaillofts.co.uk) or by telephoning the Sail Lofts Office (01736 799175).

The nearest St Ives bus stop for local routes is located in Royal Square at the bottom of The Stennack. For ‘out of town’ routes there is a main bus station at the Malakoff.

The nearest train station is adjacent to the bus station, and is a branch line that connects with St Erth for all local and national connections. Journey time to St Erth is approximately 15 minutes. There are taxi ranks at both the St Ives bus and train stations, and a direct taxi phone at St Erth station which is free of charge.

St Ives has a good selection of small supermarkets, delicatessens and shopping facilities within the town itself. There is also a Tesco on St Ives Road in Carbis Bay, which is about a 5-minute drive. You can also arrange to have food delivery through Tesco’s on-line shopping service. We provide welcome packs for our guests, which includes: fresh bread, milk, butter, tea, coffee, sugar, a local paper, flowers, cleaning agents, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and a cleaning cloth.

The nearest larger town is Penzance, which is about 8 miles away by car or train.

Full directions and access details for the apartments, with details of our ‘Master Lock - Key Safe’ system, is sent to guests 10/7 days prior to arrival.

We have an office on site, within the central courtyard, that is generally open from Monday to Saturday.

We also have a selection of children’s travel cots, high chairs and stair gates, which can be pre-booked and set-up before arrival. Please note we do not provide bedding for the travel cots.

Public Areas

Access to the Sail Lofts central courtyard is through a large set of double timber gates on Porthmeor Road, over a short section of granite cobbles and onto the sandstone paved area, which is illuminated on a ‘dusk to dawn’ automatic sensor system.

Within the central courtyard is a communal bin store (we separate paper and bottles) and a wet room with two open plan hot showers, a WC cubicle, and storage for wet suits and surf boards. The wet room is serviced on a daily basis.

There is also an external shower, under the spiral staircase, for washing down beach gear etc.

Within the landscaped central courtyard is a water/sculptor feature with a base of water set at 30mm, but please take care with young children.

All the apartments are serviced by a mail collection system through our on site office.

Arrival & Parking.

We do not have any parking facilities at The Sail Lofts. The nearest public car park is the Island/Porthgwidden car park, which is 50 metres from our complex. It is staffed from the beginning of April to the end of October, and you can purchase a weekly ticket, which is generic to the other West Penwith long stay car parks. We do have access to a few private parking bays within a 10-minute walk of the Sail Lofts, which can be pre-booked. Please call us for details of their availability.

Whilst you unload, you can park outside your apartment’s front door (Slipway, Island, Godrevy, Lighthouse, Curno, Harbour, and Zennor) or our main entrance for those properties accessed from the central courtyard (Ocean, Surf, Driftwood, Beach and Bay). Full details will be sent to you 7/10 days prior to your arrival.

All apartments have an entry light adjacent to the door and our main gates are also illuminated.
There are no steps within the central courtyard area but Driftwood is accessed via a metal spiral staircase onto the upper wood-decked mezzanine level, with a single step down to the apartment entrance.

Laundry Facilities

There are no separate laundry facilities but each property has a front loading Hoover Washing Machine/Tumble Dryer located either in the kitchen or utility room (Slipway and Ocean).

Porthmeor Beach

Porthmeor is the nearest beach to the Sail Lofts complex and is accessed via a slipway at the bottom of Porthmeor Road, 30 metres from the main gates.

Town Centre and Harbour area.

The Sail Lofts are within a short stroll of St Ives harbour. There are no steps on route, but as you would expect within a small Cornish town, a number of the streets are cobbled.

General information about the properties

  • All living areas have limed oak floors.
  • All staircases have fitted carpets.
  • All living rooms are on the top floor, apart from Surf, which is on the ground floor.
  • Most bedrooms have limed timber floors apart from Slipway and Ocean, which are slate, and Beach and Bay, which have ceramic floor tiles.
  • All duvets and pillows are premium feather. Non-allergic alternatives can be provided upon request.
  • All external door widths are 850cm, and internal doors 835cm.
  • All bath heights are 580cm, and shower trays 225cm.
  • Kitchen worktops are set at a standard height of 920cm.
  • All apartments have free-view channel televisions, DVD players and iPod docking sound systems. Some apartments also have televisions at the foot of the baths.
  • All apartments have built in Bosch electric ovens and hob units with child locks.
  • Each apartment also has a microwave built into the kitchen unit above the oven, apart from Surf, Curno, Godrevy and Lighthouse, which have free-standing microwaves on the worktops.
  • All beds are hotel quality, contract - supplied by Sealy, and are 70cm high with Pillow Coniston mattresses. Widths range from: Single 90cm, Double 135cm, King size 150cm, and Zip & Link Super King 190cm
  • Light switches and central heating controls are all set at standard height and can be reached from both seating and standing positions.
  • All properties and public areas within the Sail Lofts complex are strictly non-smoking.
  • All apartment entrance doors can be locked/unlocked from the inside via a turn-screw locking device, and via a key from the outside.
  • WI FI internet connectivity is free on site, and each apartment has an information pack with details of access codes.
  • Apartments accessed via the central courtyard (Ocean, Surf, driftwood, Beach and Bay) and Lighthouse (accessed from Ropewalk) have electronic speaker phone entry systems.
  • All apartments have solar blinds in the Velux roof-lites and timber Venetian blinds in all the windows.
  • All bathrooms and shower rooms have fully tiled walls and floors.
  • All properties are fully centrally heated.

 

Apartments


Bay Apartment

Bay is accessed from the central courtyard, and is in the far right-hand corner. It has a small 6-inch threshold step into the lower hallway. On this ground floor there is a double and single bedroom, with a family bathroom containing a separate bath and shower. A fairly narrow dogleg staircase leads to the first floor, where there is a double bedroom with and en-suite shower room, and a further double/twin bedroom. This floor also has another small separate shower room. A further set of dogleg stairs lead to the top floor open plan living/dining/kitchen area.

Slipway Apartment

Slipway is accessed from Porthmeor Road, with a short flight of seven stone steps up to the entrance door. There is a 9-inch threshold step into the lower hallway. On this ground floor are two double en-suite bedrooms. One can be set up as a twin bedded room, the en-suite having a bath with shower over; the other en-suite has a shower cubicle. There is also a utility room on this floor. A curved staircase leads up to the first floor where there is an additional en-suite double bedroom, with a shower over the bath, and a doorway into the open plan dining/kitchen area. In the kitchen area is a door that gives access to the central courtyard mezzanine. A curved staircase leads up to the large open plan lounge on the top floor, which has double folding doors onto a beautiful integral and self-contained balcony overlooking Porthmeor Beach. There is a small 4-inch threshold onto the balcony area.

Ocean Apartment

Ocean is accessed from the central courtyard, with a 4-inch threshold step into the lower hallway. On this ground floor there is a double bedroom, a family bathroom with separate bath and shower unit, and a utility room. A straight flight of stairs leads to the first floor hallway, off which are two double bedrooms and separate shower room. One of the bedrooms can be set up as twin bedded. There is also an external door off the hallway, which gives access to the central courtyard decked mezzanine area, a useful to link to the rear of Ocean. A further straight flight of stairs leads to the top floor and into the living/lounge area with an opening into the dining area.

Beach Apartment

Access from the courtyard area with a 6 inch threshold step into the lower hallway. On this floor is the family bathroom with a shower over the bath and three double bedrooms, one of which can be set up as twin beds. Two of the bedrooms are en-suit with shower rooms. The hallway is fairly spacious with a small under stairs cupboard for storage. The staircase to the upper floor has a half landing and offers easy access to the open plan living / dining / kitchen area. There is an external door on the upper floor, giving access to the mezzanine area.

Island Apartment

Island has direct access from Porthmeor Road, over a small 2-inch door threshold onto a small landing with 3 steps down into the lower hallway. On this ground floor are two bedrooms, one of which can be set up as twin bedded, with a bathroom between the two bedrooms with separate bath and shower. Off the hallway is a straight flight of stairs leading to the open plan living/dining/kitchen area on the first floor.

Harbour Apartment

Harbour has direct access from Ropewalk at the rear of The Sail Loft complex. There are 5 external stone steps leading to the front door, onto a small landing, with a further two internal steps to the open plan living/dining /kitchen area. A flight of straight stairs leads from the living area down to the lower floor, where there is a bathroom with separate bath and shower between the two bedrooms. The master bedroom also has en-suite shower room, and the second double bedroom can be set up as twin bedded.

Zennor Apartment

Zennor has direct access from Ropewalk at the rear of our The Sail Loft complex, with a 2-inch door threshold leading into the lower lobby. The apartment also has a secure internal door giving access via two steps down to the bin store, beyond which is another door to the central courtyard. To the right of the lobby is a small landing, from which a flight of straight stairs, with a small dogleg at the top, leads to the next floor. On this first floor are the two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a shower over the bath, located between the two bedrooms. There are two steps down into the master bedroom, which has en-suite shower room accessed via a sliding door and two steps up. The second double bedroom can be set up as twin bedded.

Curno Apartment

Curno has direct access from Ropewalk at the rear of The Sail Lofts complex. 2 stone steps lead to the front door and from there into a small entrance lobby that has a useful storage area. There is a fairly narrow dogleg staircase up to the first floor giving access, through an internal door, to a hallway. On this first floor are two double bedrooms, one of which can be set up as twin bedded, and a bathroom with shower over the bath. Going back into the stairwell lobby there is a further dogleg flight of stairs up to the second floor open plan living/dining/kitchen area.

Godrevy Apartment

Godrevy is accessed directly from Porthmeor Road. There are two stone steps up to the front door, leading into a small landing. A straight, but fairly steep flight of stairs, turning left at the top, leads to the first floor landing. This floor has a bathroom with shower over the bath, and two double bedrooms, one of which can be set up as twin bedded. An internal door leads to a small lobby, turning left to a straight flight of stairs up to the second floor open plan living/dining/kitchen area.

Lighthouse Apartment

Lighthouse has direct access from Ropewalk at the rear of The Sail Lofts complex. A metal-gated entrance leads to a slate flag-stoned level alleyway. The entrance to the apartment is just beyond the two working artists’ studios. A 2-inch door threshold leads into the small lobby, where a flight of straight stairs leads up to the first floor landing. On this first floor is a bathroom, with shower over the bath, and a large double bedroom. An internal door leads into a small lobby and turning right, up a straight flight of stairs to the second floor open plan living/dining/kitchen area.

Driftwood Apartment

Driftwood is accessed from the central courtyard, via a metal spiral staircase which leads to the timber decked mezzanine. There is a single step down to the entrance door, and a 3-inch threshold into the hallway. The apartment is on one level with internal doors leading from the hallway into an open plan living/dining/kitchen area, a large bedroom and a bathroom with shower over the bath.

Surf Apartment

Surf is our smallest apartment, perfect for single guests, but can also accommodate two people in comfort. Access is from the central courtyard, over a 3-inch threshold into the living/kitchen/dining area. A straight flight of stairs leads to the first floor lobby, with internal doors into the shower room and double bedroom.
